The Zaanse Schans is located in the Dutch municipality of Zaandam, near Amsterdam. Historic windmills and characterful green wooden houses were moved here to create the look of an 18th/19th century village. The Zaans Museum has regional costumes, model windmills and interactive exhibits about chocolate making. Artisan workshops demonstrate rare crafts such as carving wooden clogs, barrel making and tin casting.
